Mercreature for SISATA’s Open Air Theatre Group ‘Peter Pan’ Performance.
Adapted and Directed by Charmaine K.
This was a group project, where all members designed in collaboration, through moodboards, experimentation with dyeing, and creating textile samples. Each of us produced an individual costume under the theme 'Mercreature' and common design choices, creating an ensemble of costumes.
During this collaborative project, I took on the role of Communication Coordinator - I had to take notes, organise, encourage communication, and coordinate the pitch.
I particularly wanted to pay tribute to Portland in my design (as the location of the performance), incorporating free-machine and batik fossil drawings, as well as using beach-found materials. As we designed for community dancers aged 60+, design choices consider movement and flow. Our fabrics and materials were sustainably sourced, and we conducted beach-cleans to create an environmentally mindful response.
